Communities in Schools

What is Communities in Schools (CIS)?

Communities in Schools is the nation's largest and most effective organization dedicated to keeping kids in school and helping them succeed in life. For more than 25 years, Communities in Schools has helped students choose success by ensuring their access to the Five Basics.

  1. A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
  2. A safe place to learn and grow
  3. A healthy start and a healthy future
  4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation
  5. A chance to give back to kids and community

Meet our Adams Elementary CIS Site Coordinator...

Hello, my name is Kadrien Pickney. I’m a native of Port Arthur and a graduate from Memorial High School. I’m a recent graduate of Lamar University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work degree. I’m currently pursuing a Masters in Social Work at Texas State University. I enjoy working with the youth and I take an immense pride in education. I believe that our youth is the future and education is a key factor of them being able to reach their full potential. Therefore, I want to be able to equip the youth with as many tools as possible for them to be successful. I look forward to an exciting school year, getting to know you, and working with our wonderful students.
